The Sokoto State Government provides tax reliefs and incentives for taxpayers and businesses to cushion the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on residents and businesses operating in the State.

In a Statement by the Commissioner for Finance Honorable Abdussamad Dasuki, the tax reliefs will reduce the impact of the pandemic that has affected the income of individuals, as well as the sales and survival of small to large-scale businesses.The Honorable Commissioner said that the Sokoto State Government has;Introduced electronic payment platforms where taxpayers can pay their taxes at the comfort of their homes and offices with less exposure to the COVID-19 pandemic. These channels include; Pay Attitude (Phone Application) and Point Of Sales (POS).   Suspended the Annual Tax audit exercise for Educational and Entertainment sectors from 1st March, 2020 till 31st August 2020.Suspended the collection of Land Use Charge from 1st March, 2020 till 30th September 2020 for residential and commercial properties in Sokoto State.Extended the deadline for businesses to file their 2019 Annual Tax Returns from March 31st, 2020 to 30th September 2020 and that penalty on late filling of 2020 Annual returns for all businesses operating in the State have been suspended to 30thSeptember, 2020. Waived Penalty and interest charges on late filling and remittances of monthly PAYE have equally been waived from 1stMarch, 2020 up to 31st December 2020.Suspend the imposition of Presumptive Tax levied on all businesses operating in the informal sectors from 1st April, 2020 till 31st December 2020.Waived the payment of N100.00 Sokoto State Development Levy imposed on every taxable person for the year 2020.Suspended the payment and deduction of Water Rates from Public Servants, Public Sector and Private individuals in the State for two months (April and May 2020).Waived 50% charge on Fees and Levies collectables across the State from 1st March, 2020 till 1st January, 2021.The Honorable Commissioner urged all members of the general public to optimize the reliefs and incentives offered by the State Government and meet their civic responsibilities promptly.He enjoined the general public to adhere to all the safety guidelines and regulations issued on the COVID-19 pandemic by the State Government and all Federal and State Health Agencies.
