The Sokoto State Revenue (Integration and consolidation) Law provides that taxpayers shall file their annual tax returns not later than March 31st each year for assessment.
The same law provides sanctions that taxpayers who fail to file their return.
The SoIRS however notes that as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic which affected economic activities of most taxpayers in Sokoto State weren’t able to file their annual tax returns as stipulated in the law.
Hence the SoIRS hereby notify all taxpayers and the general public that it has approved the following reliefs and incentive programs to help ease the burden of tax compliance and mitigate the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on them.

  1. Extension of deadline for filing of the 2019 Annual Tax Returns by Six months from 31st March to 30th September 2020
  2. Suspension of collection of Land Use Charge till 30th July, 2020
  3. Suspension of Annual Tax audit exercise till 31st August, 2020
    Furthermore, in line with the social distancing measures, tax payers are enjoined to file their tax returns from the comfort of their homes or offices via email to [email protected]
    Taxpayers can also pay their taxes through the various e-payment channels recently introduced by the service.
